Some Past Projects

We did the behind the scenes document of Lennie Hill’s feature ‘Umbrellaman’ about Auckland homelessness, shot in late 2014.

An introduction by the Head of School to Elam School of Fine Arts at Auckland University.

We filmed LAB Theatre’s show ‘ONE by ONE’ directed by Pedro Ilgenfritz and created this promo for their beautiful tragi-comedy.

We produced a short film for Touch Compass Dance Trust. Jesse Johnstone-Steele is the star. The film was a prologue to a stage show that explores Jesse’s surreal dreamworld. The lines between dance show/film/rehearsal are blurred in this odyssey of a disabled dancer’s erotic-poetic awakening. The complete 7 min film is here as well as 3 min of excerpts from the rest of the show, which we also recorded. Visit Touch Compass here

After 30 years slumber, Grandad’s old super 8 camera sputtered into life in the haven of shrimp and oystermen – Apalachicola, Florida to capture a southern wedding in Motown staccato.

UNESCO funded us to go and record some examples of Tongan music in a classical style. Sisi’uno Helu, Director of the newly founded Futa Helu Performing Arts and Culture Inc. gives some theoretical context to Tongan music. This is followed by a song, Hala Kuo Papa which is a bit of an anthem in Tonga and so the imagery is quite nationalistic. The complexity and conflict in Tongan society can be seen our feature documentary Tongan Ark, which was released in 2012.

ALSO… take a look at our archive project for the ‘Atenisi Foundation for Performing Arts on YouTube. We have set up a channel that you can subscribe to if you are interested in Tongan Arts in the purist sense. See a video of AFPA performing Me’etu’upaki here as the crowd goes wild.
